Training Academy

Introduction

Myriad Medical Training Academy is a division of Myriad Medical Holdings. The development of the Myriad Medical (Pty) Ltd Education, Training and Research Academy (MMETRA) is in response to the critical need for education within South African hospitals, and hospitals outside of South African borders. The MMETRA will service Private and Government Hospitals, and is committed to “making a difference” with regard to improving current knowledge levels and clinical practice of Health Care Professionals. (HCP) The MMETRA is being developed using four pillars of learning as its foundation, namely Internal (employees) External (health care professionals) Clinical research in partnership with universities, and to provide learnerships to disadvantaged individuals.

The MMETRA whilst taking its position at the centre of Myriad Medical will “stand alone” in its quest for further education, training and research in both Private and Government Hospitals nationally, employing its own expert staff who is not part of the sales teams employed by Myriad Medical.

Goals

  • To provide a constantly challenging and innovative knowledge based environment for all customers, non-customers and employees, within the ambit of our experience.
  • To provide expert and experienced trainers, educators, lecturers, and facilitators either from the MMETRA staff or in partnership with a relevant university, thereby delivering the highest quality of training, education and research in the industry.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to the learning needs of our customers, non-customers, and employees.
  • To develop the disadvantaged person through learnerships.
  • To promote clinical research and publication thereof.
  • Define commitment to the education cause by INVESTING in training, education, and research with the advancement of study bursaries for Higher Education for HCP at selected universities.

Types of Training and Education

The training undertaken by MMETRA is not product specific, the largest proportion of training undertaken to date being that of generic training for the purpose of improving skills and knowledge of HCP. A good example is that of the Ventilation workshops undertaken in Nelspruit, for the ICU nurses. The unit in Nelspruit uses a competitive ventilator in their units, but asked MMETRA to do the ventilation training due to the recognized expert level of the MMETRA training staff.

All training and education which has to date been delivered has been given at NO COST to the learners or the institutions regardless of whether Myriad Medical products are being used by the institution.

It also the intention of MMETRA to provide technical training with regard to our Capex equipment and MMETRA is currently negotiating the way forward with a technical provider. The MMETRA has also delivered the clinical component related to mechanical ventilation to Clinical engineers, at the request of the engineers.

The focus of MMETRA will be on NURSES for the period 2007-2009 (but not excluding other HCP if the need arises) as MMETRA believes the greatest need lies with nursing staff, as to date little or no support has been forth coming from medical companies for nurses.

Partnership with Universities for Research

In order that credible, objective valid, unbiased research can be undertaken by the MMETRA it has been necessary to partnership with recognized universities. Currently the University of the Witwatersrand and MMETRA has entered into a partnership, and it hoped that such partnerships can be extended to Universities in other provinces. All research will be undertaken under the auspices of the relevant university.
