The IDG Team

Profile of IDG, BEE partner of Myriad Medical Holdings
A significant part of Myriad Medical Group’s strategy is to extend and deepen its footprint into the medical device markets of the African continent. In this regard the input and experience of Dr P Makaziwe (Maki) Mandela (Chairperson of Myriad Medical Holdings Limited and Myriad Medical (Pty) Ltd) is very significant.

Dr Maki Mandela is also a Chairperson of the Industrial Development Group (IDG), Myriad Medical’s BEE partner, which will be assisting and joining Myriad Medical in its expansion drive into Africa. Dr Mandela brings a wealth of business experience to the group, with particularly strong networks in the rapidly growing African market.Dr Maki Mandela has more than 20 years’ experience in executive positions at a range of companies and institutions. She has vast business experience in the USA, Europe and South Africa.

As a diversified pan-African group of companies, IDG already has a powerful presence and influence in many parts of Africa. At present, it has a strong footprint in South Africa, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and Congo Brazzaville. It is also active in Ghana, Chad, Cameroon, Central African Republic and Nigeria.

The group’s activities in Africa stretch across a number of diverse sectors, including petroleum, mining, natural resources, technology and energy-related industries. IDG’s high-level strategic relationships in both the public and private sectors in these countries position it as an ideal partner for South African companies seeking expansion opportunities on the continent.

The Chairman of the IDG Group is Mxolisi Mbetse, an investment banker with 11 years’ experience and previously Chairman of UBS Corporate Finance in South Africa and a director of HSBC.
The investment by and involvement of IDG in Myriad medical Holdings is seen as a crucial element in the group’s future plans. IDG will play an active role as a shareholder in Myriad, which is set to add huge value to Myriad. Myriad’s BEE status will also improve its access to government hospital tenders and contracts at a time when government has increased its budget allocation for the South African public health sector. In addition, a number of opportunities in the African market have been identified, which Myriad intends exploring with IDG.

Specifically speaking, these opportunities in Africa for Myriad Medical Holdings will include expanding technical support into the continent, increased product sales and turnkey solutions.

These core qualities above make IDG an ideal and powerfully synergistic partner for Myriad Medical.
